Today we ventured out to the acropolis, which was absolutely amazing to see in person! After studying it for so long it was awesome to finally see it in person. We actually managed to find it with no problems at all, yay score two for us! Somehow I feel like we're getting too lucky finding these things so easily...knowing our luck it probably won't keep up lol we have a knack for getting lost.
We spent a good few hours actually taking in thr sites, not only was it amazing to see the temples and runins on the acropolis but the view from the top was amazing. After seeing the acropolis we ventured down the slope and seen the ancient agora, the museum, the roman agora, the library, and a few more temples. Seeing all of the ancient pottery from the different time periods was awesome, because we spent so much time studying them. However I did find that there wasn't that much information in the museum about the items you were seeing, but that was ok for me seeing as I already knew what they were. On the way into the acropolis we also got to see the theatre of Dionysus which at one time held 9000 people, however most of it now is over grown.
After we seen all the sites we decided to grab some lunch and try real Greek food for the first time. It was very good, Kristy and I both enjoyed our meals. I had lamb with Greek yogurt, and tomatoes It was good, but very heavy. The meat tatsted a lot like donair meat that we have at home.
The city of Athens is so much different then Rome, the part we have seen so far has been very dirty and run down. We thought there was a lot of poor people begging in Rome, well Rome has nothing on Athens, even little kids are begging for money, it's such a sin to see kids as young as 4 begging people for money. But I'm not going to write it off just yet because we have not seen a lot of the city, we have only seem the area around the acropolis. I have found that Greek people have a little better idea of personal space, on the subways they don't actually try to get on top of you whoop!
More adventuring for us tomorrow!
More to add hahaha, so today I had to use the shower that doesn't have a holder for the shower head, had to wash my hair with one hand, that was a task and a half I must say. The shower has a high tap so I tired to sit down and let the water rise my hair but halfway through the water started to only come out of the shower head. Also hit my head on the hot water heater when I was shavi g my legs. Another perk to the apartment...no plug for the sink in the kitchen, so washing the dishes is tricky. To anyone who needs to wash their dishes without a plug, no need to fear just use and upside down cup! It works a little, sometimes the water drains a bit but its better then squirting soap on every utensil and washing it like that.
